Wall-mounted fireplace

Modern and stylish, wall-mounted ethanol fireplaces are the very essence of supplemental heating: they’re easy to install and can be mounted on any surface in 15 to 20 minutes, thanks to the quick-mount kit provided—and they require very little maintenance. These bio-ethanol fireplaces also offer the advantage of being recessed if you’re even slightly handy, allowing for a flush installation that blends seamlessly into the wall. You also won’t need to file any permits to install this type of stove, as it doesn’t require an exhaust flue to the outside. From the versatile 3kW model to the 16:9 horizontal fireplace equipped with 2, 3, or 4 burners, there’s a model to suit every need, providing a real boost of warmth to a living room or family room.

Since their introduction in the early 2000s, wall-mounted ethanol fireplaces have, in a sense, become the “flagship” of this type of stylish supplemental heating. Whenever ethanol is mentioned, the image that immediately comes to mind is invariably that of these ultra-slim, built-in models, which resemble either a painting or a TV. Unlike portable models, a wall-mounted fireplace needs to be mounted—and that’s its only drawback—using a mounting kit that we provide with each of our models. But don’t let that scare you if you’re a renter, for example: nothing is permanent, and any holes you make in the wall can easily be filled with a little spackle.

INSTALLING MY FIREPLACE ON THE WALL

You’ll need a little patience—it’ll take about a quarter of an hour. You’ll also need a few tools: a ruler to measure the spacing of the holes on the back of the fireplace and mark them on the wall, a level to ensure it’s installed straight, a screwdriver, and a drill. Our wall-mounting kit includes special anchors for solid materials. If you’re mounting on hollow surfaces—such as drywall—use the appropriate anchors, such as molly screws, which you can find at Leroy-Merlin or Bricomarché, among other stores.

      Assembling Kit A

After marking the back of the fireplace, you’ll know whether the bars should be installed horizontally or vertically (1). You’ll also know how far apart they should be placed. The bars are then secured to the wall using the provided anchors. After this step, the wall-mounted stove is mounted onto them.

      Assembling Kit B

You’ll need to secure the vertical bar to the wall—be sure to adjust its height so the stove is properly secured. The two horizontal bars will slot into the notches provided for them. The fireplace will be secured to the bottom of these two bars.

Installation is possible on a variety of surfaces, either flush-mounted or recessed. However, make sure the wall material is sound: it must not be crumbly or brittle. Always remember to test the installation after mounting—by pushing the ethanol fireplace up or down—to ensure it is securely anchored to the wall.

Some frequently asked questions about wall-mounted ethanol fireplaces

Can you place pebbles or logs on this type of fireplace?

As you may have noticed, it is possible to accessorize a wall-mounted fireplace: items made from a special material, similar to ceramic, are used. These items—logs or pebbles—are ideal for wall-mounted fireplaces because they’re very lightweight (less than 10 grams each) and therefore don’t overload the fireplace. This ensures the installation remains secure. Consider that a standard set of ethanol-specific pebbles weighs around 200 grams, whereas the same number of natural pebbles would weigh over 7 kilograms. In any case, be sure not to place the pebbles in direct contact with the flame.

Is it possible to set them up outdoors?

Absolutely not! Ethanol fireplaces generally cannot tolerate drafts: they cause the flame to flare out, which obviously poses a danger. Furthermore, steel and stainless steel are not designed to withstand the elements over the long term.

Is there a risk that my wall will get hot? Do I need to insulate it?

No additional insulation is needed: the kit provided ensures a gap of about 1.5 cm between the wall and the back of the fireplace. This is more than enough for the heat to dissipate without causing damage, even to a white wall.

Do all wall-mounted fireplaces have to be mounted on the wall, or can they be placed on the floor?

Some hybrid models are available in the wall-mounted stove category but can also be placed on the floor. For example, the Oslo, Oslo XL, and Kuopio models all feature a protrusion at the bottom, which can also serve as a base.

Do you need a flue or an insert?

No construction work is needed to create a vent: ethanol does not produce toxic fumes. All the heat generated is fully released into the room.

The back of your fireplaces is usually black. What is it? How does it age?

The black back panel found on many of our stoves is made of matte black-painted steel. It ages quite well—we wouldn’t offer a 5-year warranty on our catalog if that weren’t the case. Over time, you’ll notice slight discoloration of the paint at the base of the flame. This is normal given the heating temperature.

What’s the difference between a guard and a protective glass panel?

Some models come standard or as an option with a fire-resistant glass panel or a protective grille. The primary function of these components is to prevent any contact between the flame and a foreign object. You might prefer one over the other solely for aesthetic reasons. Both are very easy to install.

      Thinking About My Safety

A flame is never harmless and can potentially become a threat. To avoid any risk of burns or fire, always keep some basic safety precautions in mind.

If you have children, it might be wise to choose a model equipped with a glass shield or a fire-resistant grille. Make sure to install it at a sufficient height so that children cannot reach the burners.

Also, for the sake of children: avoid leaving ethanol in the tank when the stove is not in use. This will prevent any temptation and help avoid accidents!

Ventilate and air out the room for 5 minutes before and after burning: a mechanical ventilation system or a slightly open window is sufficient to ensure air circulation.
